It feels like I’m living in an alternate universe when Trinity Broadcast Network is airing a show headlined by Kid Rock.
In the late eighties and nineties Pat Robertson on TBN talked frequently about the evils of rock and roll. It was demonic, a tool of the devil to steal our souls. Others on TBN included Christian groups like Stryper and Petra in the category of demonic. I don’t agree with Pat, never did. Yet…
I know Kid Rock – I listened to a lot of his early stuff in his rap-metal, nu-metal phase. He is a musician who sings of porn stars, drinking, illicit sex, how he likes underage girls (yes, celebrating statutory rape), and uses vulgarity prolifically.
Not familiar with Kid Rock, check out his lyrics on songs like:
Devil Without a Cause (1998),
Flat out you diss me punk, that’s when I pull the strap out
And I get to buck-buck-bucking, I’m f***- f*** – f***ing your hoes
‘Cause they know who’s runnin’ this s**t, Top Dog, I’m the C-E-O
Role model, your mother-f***ing H-E-R-O
“Don’t Tell me How to Live” (2022)
Tool in the shed, no, I’ve never been the smartest
But make no mistake I hit the f***ng hardest
Devil without a ’cause, you heard me scream it
And twenty years later, bitch, I still f***ing mean it
Bucka, bucka you ain’t never met a motherf***er like this
Kiss my a** then you can suck a d*** sideways
“I am the Bullgod.” (1993) Yes, that’s right, Bullgod.
I am the bullgod
I am free
And I feed on all that is forsaken
I’m gonna get you
I see through you
I’m gonna get you
Oh, and the worst, “Cool Daddy” (1997)
Now, some people say my mind’s blown, I’m coolin’ like a snow cone
On my cell phone I’m paid, G, can’t call me, just page me
Young ladies, young ladies, I like ’em underage, see
Some say that’s statutory (But I say it’s mandatory)
My story ain’t that complex, two forties and a Rolex
Oh, you might say, that’s rock music. Hey, I love rock music – the heavier the better. And I have a finely tuned ability to filter out the objectionable. But this is airing on a Christian network and is billed as a show of “Faith, Family, and Freedom.” Is the freedom they’re promoting the freedom to abuse young girls? Is the faith they are promoting a faith in the Bullgod?
How’d we get here? A total lack of Christian discernment, that’s how. Does the artist, speaker, author, etc., align with my political views? Does he speak against my political opponents? Does he support “my” President? If so, nothing else matters apparently.
